On the first day of October, the world community celebrates the International Day of Older Persons, which was started to be celebrated on the initiative of the UN General Assembly on December 14, 1990.

Respect for the elderly is one of the values of society. Today, this is an important reminder to the world community of the deep humanitarian obligation to be caring and compassionate towards the oldest and most experienced generation. People of respectable age are a treasure of the nation, a source of cultural wisdom.

The Salvation Army in Eastern European Territory celebrated this day and provided some practical support for the elderly, found the right words, because a person who lived to an old age is worthy of respect even if only because he was able to do it by the grace of God.

There are several programs available for elderly people in Eastern Europe Territory designed to support the most important desire of people of the older generation – the desire to live. Food kits, hygiene products, clothes, shoes, as well as spiritual communication, during which respected, wise grandparents open their souls. Also, Eastern Europe Territory conducts a few activities for elderly people – cooking, physical activities, creativity and a lot more.
